The critic's stories: every before / after
An appendix to A critic in the loop. Every story the 14M student wrote during the harvest, in two versions: raw (the unaided student, accept-first) and teacher-guided (the same student, same seed, with the critic flagging and the student rewriting each flagged sentence, then a forced ending if it wouldn't finish on its own).
A caveat worth stating: these are not line-by-line diffs. Once the teacher rewrites the opening sentence, the two versions diverge into different stories from the same seed — so read them as "what the student produced alone" vs "what it produced with a critic in the loop," not as one story minus its errors. All output is raw: lowercase, and the spacing around quotes is the detokenizer's.
Enrichment: bland → richer
A different move from the enrichment pass (the soft mode). These sentences were already gate-clean — not wrong — but flat or unclear, so the student was asked for a few alternatives and the richest gate-clean one was swapped in. Dialogue is never touched. A handful of actual swaps:
| the student's flat line | the richer line it was swapped for |
|---|---|
| timmy loved to play with his toys and draw. | timmy loved to play with his toys, but his favorite was a big, red ball. |
| on his journey, sam encountered a scary wolf. | in the forest, sam met a wise owl. |
| once there was a little girl named lily. | one day, mommy and dad were walking through the park. |
| that's not our ball. | the ball is too heavy for us. |
| she decided to take joe to get a peel. | she suggested joe share a banana. |
The first four trade a generic line for a concrete image or setting; the last is the clarity side — "get a peel" is confusing, "share a banana" is not. All modest (the 14M student can only offer what it can write), all additive: if no alternative was gate-clean and strictly richer, the original stayed.
